Travel & Accommodation

Flight Options

Most important consideration while choosing international flights

Before making their flight bookings, international participants coming to participate in the congress from outside the USA should directly check with the airlines by calling over phone if any stopovers enroute require a "transit visa". For example, a traveller from a particular country in Africa or Asia having a stopover in a country in Europe may be required to secure a transit visa for that country in Europe even if s/he would remain within the airport premises for a few hours.

It is best to book flights for landing at Ithaca Tompkins International Airport (ITH), which is closest to Cornell University campus. Although it is designated as an "international" airport, almost all its flights arrive/ depart either from/ to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), New Jersey. Therefore, whether you are traveling domestically in the United States or internationally, while searching for flights in travel websites like Expedia, please enter ITH as the destination airport so that it will include flights all the way to Ithaca. This is the preferred flight option, however you may consider other flight options below.

The next closest airport is Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR), which is about 60 miles away from the campus. You can take a bus (like ourbus) or a ride-hailing service or a taxi or a rental car (for example, Avis, Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, etc. through sites like PriceLine) if you can drive yourself to Ithaca from there.

If you choose to land in John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), New Jersey or LaGuardia Airport (LGA), New York, you need to travel further for about 250 miles (400 kilometers) to reach Ithaca, preferably by air (as mentioned above) or you can take a bus or a ride-hailing service or a taxi or a rental car. There are several bus operators including ourbus and several ride-hailing services like Lyft/Uber.

Accommodation Options

There are several hotels in Ithaca to choose from and also, new accommodation concepts like airbnb, which provide economical stay options. If you get an economical hotel booking or airbnb which is within driving distance of Cornell University campus, you can hire a rental car (for example, Avis, Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, etc. through sites like PriceLine) for a daily commute.

There are many eateries near the campus to relish good food (please view the videos below).
